Rohit Bhatia, Coach

Coach · he/him · at Forge since 2021

RohitBhatia

Competes in powerlifting, coaches the evening strength classes and most of the open gym hours.

Rohit came to Forge as a member in 2019 and started coaching two years later, which is the ordinary route here and not a fast-track. He competes three or four times a year in British Powerlifting affiliated meets, and he is quietly the strongest person in the building by a margin nobody discusses.

That matters less than the other thing about him, which is that he is a technique obsessive. He will watch one set and tell you a specific, unwelcome, correct thing about it.

How he coaches

Directly. If your squat is shallow, Rohit will say your squat is shallow, and then he will tell you the two things that will fix it. People who have trained for years often find this the most valuable hour they have had in the gym, because nobody has been willing to say it.

He is also the person to talk to if you want to compete. He will tell you what that actually involves, including the parts that are boring, and he does not push anyone towards it.

What he is less good at

Absolute beginners. He knows it, and on a first session he will hand you to Divya if she is on the floor. His instinct is to give you three things to think about and a total beginner needs one.
