Kabir Sethi, Coach

Coach · he/him · at Forge since 2022

KabirSethi

Ran a cycling club for eight years before this. Writes most of the interval work and coaches the conditioning classes.

Kabir spent eight years running a cycling club in Rotherham, which is less about coaching than it is about persuading forty adults to turn up on a wet Tuesday. He is very good at the turning-up part, and it shows in his classes, which have the best attendance in the building through February.

He came to Forge because he had watched a decade of endurance athletes get injured doing no strength work at all, and wanted to be somewhere that did both.

How he coaches

By the numbers, and he will explain the numbers. If a piece is written as twenty minutes at a pace you could hold for thirty, Kabir will tell you what that pace is on your machine, and then he will stand next to you for the first three minutes because everybody goes out too hard.

He is the coach most likely to tell you to slow down, and the one most likely to be ignored.

What he is less good at

The barbell. He coaches it competently and he knows he is not the person to ask about a stuck squat. He will point you at Rohit or Ananya without being asked twice.
